Insta360 GO 2 USB Power Mounts

How to make a custom USB 3 connector to power the Insta360 GO 2 USB Power Mount directly from a 5 Volt BEC on a flight controller. This tutorial shows how to convert a USB power lead adaptor as well as how to wire up a SMD type USB C plug.

To make a custom USB C power plug for an Insta360 GO 2 USB Power Mount, you can simply purchase a bare DIY style USB C plug and wire it up with pos and neg wires. These wires can then be connected to any 5 Volt BEC on your flight controller which can supply at least 1.5 Amps. Make sure you check the rated ampage of the BEC because the Power Mount does actually pull this amount of power for charging when the camera battery is low.

The bare USB C type plug can be bought at many electronic components stores. If searching on eBay the best search term to use is “DIY 24 Pin USB 3.1Type C Plug Connector”. You can simply follow the diagram according to your connector. However, all this style of connector are wired up as shown here.

Adding an in-line connector in the power supply leads allows for the Power Mount to be removed when not in use. A Betaflight BT2 connector is the recommended type of connector as it is more able to deal with the 1.5 amps current draw compared to other connectors with folded type pins. If you don’t habe any of these then a MCPX (PH2.0) connector will work well too.
